This is the supreme Pan American organ of the PAIGH which sets its scientific, administrative and financial direction. Moreover it elects the Authorities of the Institute. It is made up of the delegates designated by the Member States, the Authorities of the PAIGH and invited Observers. Each one of the Member State delegations has the right to a vote. Normally, the assembly meets every four years.
This is the permanent organ of the PAIGH that is responsible for the functions of the General Assembly during the intervals between the meetings of the latter. It is made up of representatives of each one of the Member States and the Authorities of the PAIGH. Normally, the Council meets once a year.
These are the organs with the task of setting up and putting into effect the scientific and technical programs of the PAIGH approved by the General Assembly or the Directing Council. Moreover, they encourage and coordinate the scientific and technical development of their respective fields of action in the Member States. There are four Commissions: Cartography, Geography, History and Geophysics. These in turn are divided into Committees and Work Groups. Usually they meet every two years.
Meeting of Authorities
This is the leading body that coordinates the activities of the Institute between each meeting of the Directing Council. The PAIGH President, Vice-President, the Secretary General, and the four Commission Presidents participate in these meetings, which normally are held twice a year.
The central and permanent body of the PAIGH, which has the mission of running administrative tasks so that the Institute keeps functioning, coordinating the activities of the other organs and providing the assistance necessary for them to work, performing tasks set by those organs and ensuring that the agreements made are fulfilled.
The National Section is the organ established by each Member State for fulfilling the purposes of the PAIGH within the sphere of action of a nation, having the financial support of its respective government for that end. The persons named by the governments of the Members States as representatives to the various organs of the PAIGH make up the National Section.
